Iran is willing to resume atomic discussions with the United States provided that it is treated with "dignity" and "respect", Iran's foreign minister has stated.

The Iranian diplomat stated solely negotiations produced results, and revealed new appeals had come from mediators to reopen talks with the American leadership. He said Iran did not have secret atomic facilities, and Tehran could not yet permit the global atomic watchdog to access attacked atomic facilities for security reasons.

Navigating a Challenging Route

The foreign minister is navigating a complex route since Iran does not want be perceived to be operating from a situation of disadvantage, and he emphatically stated that Iran had emerged stronger in military terms and mentally from the coordinated strike on its atomic facilities in June.

He was addressing at a security conference in Tehran where he reiterated that Iran had "an inalienable right to refine atomic fuel within its borders that it will always maintain" – the primary cause of the deadlock in the earlier negotiations.

Prior Negotiations Suddenly Ended

The prior phases of talks between the US and Iran were ended suddenly and bitter conclusion on 12 June when Israel, with American backing, attacked Tehran's atomic facilities in a two-week conflict that culminated with the American leader declaring the locations had been eliminated. Following this, EU nations exercised their privilege to restore international penalties, but Iran asserts they have not had a major impact.

Perfect Agreement Offered

Tehran representatives stated they felt they had attained a "ideal resolution" to the uranium processing matter in previous talks, when it was settled an local partnership with US participation could refine atomic fuel. Each party would have been able to claim victory since home-based processing would have remained and the US could be assured that Iran's nuclear programme was exclusively peaceful.

It had not been settled in the talks that US nuclear scientists could operate on Iranian soil, but that was a natural consequence of the cooperative offer. The foreign minister declared: "It was not Iran that had fled dialogue; it was the United States and the Western nations that had consistently attempted to impose their desires during the negotiations. Diplomacy can still be alive and remains the final answer to settle conflicts, but its criteria, guidelines and tenets must be adhered to."

"If they address to the Iranian people with the tone of respect and honor, they will obtain a reply in the identical approach."

Recovery and Reconstruction

In what is characterized by Tehran representatives as the struggle of restoration and recovery, the foreign minister claimed he was assured Iran's defence capabilities "are considerably enhanced than preceding 13 or 14 June of this year. All our capabilities have been rebuilt. We gained many lessons from this engagement; we have come to know our internal vulnerabilities and the shortcomings of the opponent."

He added: "We effectively endured this war. Our nuclear technology, which they intended to eliminate, remains in place. The sites and equipment, if eliminated, will be reconstructed; what is crucial is the resolve of the citizens of Tehran and then the unity of the country that they aimed at, but failed to shatter. The nation of Iran have developed stronger, more cohesive, and more backing of the leadership and the state in the wake of this attack."
